Amway Grand Plaza Hotel

Andy J. Egan Company’s work in the buildings that today comprise the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel began more than 100 years ago. In 1915, Mr. Andy Egan heated the annex of the Pantlind Hotel when it was renovated from Sweet’s Hotel. Egan also installed heating systems in the Fine Arts Building, later called the Exhibitors Building.

In 1981, after being purchased by Amway, the iconic Glass Tower that marks the Grand Rapids skyline opened, with mechanical systems installed by Egan. The Glass Tower combined with the restored Pantlind and Exhibitors Buildings now make up the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel, where Egan continues regular renovation and restoration projects to maintain the building’s heritage and luxury.

One example of Egan’s ongoing service to the Amway Grand Plaza is the installation of a heat recovery system in 2004. This system reduced the building’s steam and domestic water use, saving the hotel $100,000 annually in energy costs. The return on investment for the system was just two years, and Egan has since installed three additional systems for the hotel. Egan's Service & Controls division provides ongoing solutions as a Johnson Controls Authorized Building Controls Specialist.

The hotel has also contracted Egan for other renovation projects, such as the renovation of Cygnus, the addition of Ruth’s Chris and the transformation of Bentham’s into Wolfgang Puck.
