Muskegon Surgery Center North Addition

After completing other expansions at Muskegon Surgery Center, Egan was tapped for a third addition consisting of four operating rooms and a new mechanical room to support the additional square footage. The project included the installation of large ductwork required by the operating rooms standards at the Level 2 outpatient healthcare facility, and Egan had a number of additional systems to install within the constraints of the space:

Sanitary and domestic water

Snowmelt

Gas piping

Steam and condensate

Medical gas

Chilled water for cooling

Heating hot water

Water softener

RO system

Egan utilized its internal VDC department to layout the duct in a BIM model for better coordination among the trades. In doing so, they created a plan to install the sanitary piping first -- above the ductwork -- and to utilize trapeze hangers for both the ductwork and long runs of piping when possible. Additional project scope included a large sewage ejector system for disposal of sterilizer water, equipment relocation, and the addition of a new unit that ties in the existing snowmelt system.
