South Tower and Hospital Renovation

The McLaren Northern Michigan project included the addition of a South Tower, as well as renovations to the existing hospital. Egan’s scope included plumbing, hydronic piping, medgas, mechanical equipment and respective controls. The project foreman enlisted the help of Egan's internal 3D scanning division for more accurate BIM and more efficient construction. A series of three 3D scans -- called progressive scanning -- revealed that the building's angle was not consistent with the construction plans in some locations. The VDC and construction crews were able to account for this difference in advance of installation and without adding to the schedule. 3D scans were also used to set sleeves and for point layout on each floor, saving approimately two days per floor, or 10 days on the entire project schedule.
