For more than two decades, a Michigan-based medical lab has relied on Egan’s Service Division for preventative maintenance on mechanical equipment at its Grand Rapids headquarters and multiple satellite locations. Egan’s team of service specialists has ensured that the labs’ equipment maintains its requirements for state certification on a quarterly basis.
In 2020, the facilities team at the Grand Rapids location recognized a need to update aging equipment and building controls. Because Egan offers single-source mechanical solutions that include controls, the medical lab was able to lean on its longtime partner for the upgrades.
To accommodate the unique needs of the lab, the project was broken into four smaller phases at a deliberately slower pace, with the entire project lasting roughly five years and Egan self-performing the work. Egan retrofitted old pneumatic panels with new controls, leaving the faces of the vintage boxes intact. With the new controls, Egan also updated the facility to a more advanced and flexible BACnet system. Approximately 40 VAV boxes were also replaced, along with VFDs, multiple rooftop units, two boilers and a water heater.
When complete, the building owner will have significantly greater control over its mechanical equipment, resulting in long-term efficiency and energy savings.
