New construction of a 350,000 square-foot mill for manufacturing coated recycled board. Egan’s scope was completed in just six months and included equipment setting and associated piping for a reverse osmosis system and two 250,000 lb/hr steam boilers, among other equipment. Off site fabrication and progressive scanning aided the aggressive timeline and ensured the project was completed on schedule. Of the 9,000 linear feet of pipe installed, Egan fabricated 7,800 feet. As equipment was being set, Egan used 3D scanning to verify that point-to-point connections for fabricated spools were accurate.

In addition, the owner requested multiple scope changes throughout the project. Instead of creating redline drawings to reconcile the original plans, Egan’s internal VDC department laser scanned the site when construction was complete. The scan-data was packaged into as-built documentation to turnover to the customer. The project foremen saved approximately 40 hours of time that would have been spent on redline paperwork.
