Castor Dairy Biodigester

Egan’s wide range of welding certifications and plumbing skillsets were integral on a recently completed project for Brightmark and Venture Engineering. The dairy producer’s Coopersville location – Castor Dairy – required a mix of plumbing, mechanical, process piping, and compressed natural gas piping for the construction of its Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) facility. The facility required 17,000 linear feet of both above grade and below grade piping to connect the underground concrete digester with the three major equipment buildings. The buildings house a series of screw presses, a large manure dryer and equipment for filtering and compressing digester gas

Approximately 70% of the necessary piping was fabricated in Egan’s 60,000 square-foot shop. Although the customer provided detailed isometric drawings, Egan’s VDC department executed a 3D scan to verify locations of equipment and other connection points. The goal was to adjust the drawings to fit existing conditions and improve fabrication accuracy, reducing installation time. Egan completed the yearlong project roughly one month ahead of schedule.
