Mel Trotter Facilities Renovation

Mel Trotter selected Andy J. Egan Co. Inc to assist with the mechanical scope of its four-phase facility renovation, which transformed group living quarters to semi-private, dormitory-style rooms and bathrooms. The Design-Build project lasted roughly a year and half, with phases sequenced so that shelter could remain operational throughout the duration of the construction. The building's existing HVAC system was beyond its lifespan and required significant updates. Egan installed a new HVAC system that included biopolar ionization for healthier, better air quality. The shelter now has a hydronic reheat VAV, significantly more air changeovers, better ventilation and improved energy efficiency. Egan's Building Controls division also installed a new BMS system -- using the Johnson Controls platform and leveraging the company's status as an Authroized Building Specialist -- and the Construction Technology department conducted 3D laser scans in order to coordinate and model the project with better accuracy. Guests of the shelter will find more comfortable, dignified housing in the renovated space, and Egan is continuing to partner with Mel Trotter and Rockford Construction on renovations for the organization's other facilities.
